A lesser known rumour circulates around the possible buyout of city rivals Manchester United.
However, this will be no ordinary takeover of the Red Devils. In recent days reports have begun circulating throughout the United Kingdom that Manchester United will be subject to a bid from the Royal family of Dubai. It is rumoured to be an offer that the Glazers will be unable to refuse.
Now, how tasty would that make future Manchester derbies?
In recent years, it has being evident that Dubai and Abu Dhabi have both tried to out do each other in terms of infrastructure, oil profits, education, and tourism numbers. While both are members of the United Arab Emirates, they, along with other emirates, retain the right to keep its own natural resources and its own economic path.
From this, both emirates have sought to out do each other. Dubai has its own airline: Emirates, Abu Dhabi has Eithad. Dubai hosts a top male tennis tournament, Abu Dhabi a top female tennis tournament. Dubai hopes to one day hold a Formula One Grand Prix, Abu Dhabi buys a stake in the Ferrari Formula One team.
Dubai invested in Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, Abu Dhabi buys Manchester City. As Arsenal look inaccessible to anyone who wishes to gain total control of the club, it has been suggested that the Dubai Royal family may now flex their financial muscle and acquire the red half of Manchester.
Well in today's footballing world, and the level of competition between the two emirates, this is not beyond the realms of possibility.
So it seems once again that Manchester United will rain on their city rival's parade.
