True to form, the outspoken Mourinho has already gained attention just three games into his first season in Italy for a verbal war with Catania chief executive Pietro Lo Monaco. He was in the spotlight for his remarks again last weekend, after declaring that "no one is better than me."
"Mourinho works a lot with his staff and refers often to us," said Baresi, who played 15 seasons as a defender for Inter. "He gives us the chance to gain experience on every level."
"Mourinho is very well prepared, he knows what he wants," Baresi said. "He has a strong personality and he's sure of what he does. Those are very important characteristics and they transmit the right mentality to the team."
With seven points, three-time defending champion Inter is tied for the Serie A lead with Juventus. On Sunday, Inter faces AC Milan in the city derby, and Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti was asked about Mourinho's no show.
"I don't find it particularly bad," Ancelotti said. "It could be an attempt to reward his colleagues. And if that's the case, it should be appreciated because there are some great and very competent people that work in coaches' shadows."
Baresi said that in just two months Inter was already starting to understand Mourinho's demands.
"We're on the right road. The team understands the philosophy Jose wants to play with," Baresi said. "I think we still have work to do, but the team understands where we want to get to."
